Detox Bath Benefits
Updated: Feb 10, 2022
Blue & Bairn Co. uses a mixture of equal parts Dead Sea salt, Pink Himalayan salt, and Epsom Salt, topped with organic essential oils and a variety of wildflowers and herbs to create a very relaxing & calming detox bath blend. Detox baths are used to de-toxify your body and remove the build up of toxins that occur from our regular routines, helping to
boost our health and overall well-being, strengthen our immune system, improve sleep and concentration, improve skin quality, and even prevent disease. Start your detox bath journey with a 10 - 20 minute bath once a week with 2 cups of bath salts, the length and amount will depend on how YOU feel. From there you can determine what feels best for you. My favorite time of day to detox is a Saturday morning so I can drink lots of water and cuddle up on the couch afterwards to watch a movie (but that's just me!). Your skin is your largest organ, take good care of it!
Dead Sea Salt
Who doesn't feel better by the ocean? Sea salt is formed from the evaporation of seawater which allows it to hold it's natural minerals including magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, and potassium (all the good stuff!). Sea salt improves your skin barrier function, enhances your skin's hydration, and reduces inflammation all while relieving stress, promoting relaxation, and easing your sore muscles.
If anyone suffers from dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, or acne (or all of the above like me), you know that a little time in the sea heals your skin like nothing else! My dermatologist specifically recommended Dead Sea salt baths when I was at the peak of struggling with psoriasis in high school. So why not have that at home too?
Pink Himalayan Salt
We LOVE pink Himalayan salt: In the bath, in lamps, as stones that are scattered throughout our house, and on top of chocolate! Pink Himalayan salt is a very powerful detoxifier, the ionic salt extracts the toxins from your body and your organs resonate with the natural frequency the minerals provide.
Your body will feel relaxed, recharged, energized, and calm all at once, boosting your body's metabolism and natural abilities to heal. Similar to Dead Sea salt, Pink salt improves your skins hydration, brings relief to skin conditions, and provides muscle cramps and aches a sense of calm.
Epsom Salt
The main ingredients of Epsom Salt are magnesium and sulfate, both of which are known to stimulate detoxification pathways in your body. Most of our bodies are lacking in proper magnesium absorption, soaking in it is a great way to improve your levels! Magnesium aids in a number of bodily functions and the removal of toxins as the sulfate strengthens your digestive tract making the removal of these toxins a lot easier. Epsom Salt helps with the exfoliation of dry skin, while reducing soreness and stress like the other salts.
Organic Essential Oils
Essential oils can add more than just a lovely aroma to your bath salts. Our favorites over at Blue & Bairn Co. are lavender, sweet orange, lemongrass, and eucalyptus mint.
Lavender is your choice for all things relaxation, known for it's fantastic anti-inflammatory and high-antioxidant properties. This oil also has the ability to improve sleep, aid in fungal infections, reduce stress, and has been useful for treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and general restlessness. Lavender is also known to soothe dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis (even bug bites!). The antioxidants in this oil also have the ability to fight off free radicals to reduce the signs of aging by improving mitochondria function.
Sweet Orange oil is your choice for feeling uplifted, energized, and boosting your immune system! Extracted from the rind of sweet oranges, this powerhouse oil carries tons of benefits for the mind and body by reducing nervous tension, releasing pain caused by digestive issues, improving skin complexion, and lowering blood pressure.
Lemongrass is my personal favorite, so refreshing! Extracted from the leaves and stalks of the lemongrass plant, lemongrass oil has a powerful, citrus scent with the added benefit of preventing the growth of bacteria and fungus. Lemongrass is also an anti-inflammatory that is full of antioxidants to fight off free radicals, similar to lavender. It may also help with the prevention of gastric ulcers and nausea relief.
Eucalyptus is also full of antioxidants and is a potent antimicrobial. Eucalyptus is a true multipurpose oil that works against bacteria and viruses - which is why it’s so good for colds and other respiratory ailments - as well as fungi. Due to its ability to relieve pressure on the sinuses, eucalyptus oil is most effective in helping to clear up a sinus migraine. However, it has been found to also help relax both the facial muscles and the mind, which could help soothe a headache. We have combined this with Peppermint, which is my personal favorite headache reliever, and a treatment for a variety of conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, nausea, and other digestive issues, as well as the common cold and headaches, along with being a topical application for relief from itching and muscle pain!
Combine all of this with a dash of wildflowers and herbs, dried from our garden, and you have yourself a very relaxing, very healthy, very natural detox bath!
